Copperwood

This modest-sized tree grows up to 8 meters (26.2 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 162 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, twisting trunk covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pine-coloured.

The branches are very long and thin, with hundreds of twigs covered with thick bunches of giant, orange needles. The needles themselves are flimsy.

In late summer it produces small, light brown, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
