Saltblossom

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 90 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of sturdy, straight stems covered in knobbly, white with black speckled bark, and the wood inside is silver.

The branches trail down towards the ground that and are covered with thick bunches of small, very narrow and elongated, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either olive or copper, with amber edges, resilient and crispy.

In late summer it produces hundreds of large, bold yellow blossoms with many layers of petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like ashes.

In late winter small fan-like fruits ripen. The rubbery cyan skin is peel-able and inedible, and the very soft bold yellow flesh is overwhelmingly salty and very juicy. The white seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

It comes in 11 varieties, each with a different leaf colour.
It can survive a very long time without water.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
