Brown Bark Shrub

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for around 57 years. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous very thick, straight stems covered in very thick, silky, brown and grey bark, and the wood inside is dark brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright with dozens of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of large, thick, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are cyan and dark purple, durable and rough.

It produces thick bunches of medium-sized, cream flowers with wide petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like faeces. In late winter it forms smallgreen, winged seeds that float and land far away.

It can absorb up to 16 times its own weight in water.
