Violetbell Tree

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 20 feet (6.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 44 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in thick, cracked, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is brown.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with small amounts of tiny, teardrop-shaped leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are either violet or crimson, with aquamarine lines.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, gold blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a fairly strong scent that smells like chocolate.

In mid-summer it produces small, oval fruit. The clammy drab green skin is tough and inedible, and the very soft blood red flesh is bitter and sour and juicy. The gold seeds are small and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
