Waterstem Fruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 19 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in hard, smooth, brown and grey bark, and inside, the soft wood is pale brown-grey.

The branches are very long and slender and are covered with large amounts of miniature, very thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are orange-yellow with brown tips.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of giant, purple blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like fermented fruit.

In late autumn it produces , long, narrow fruit. The clammy indigo skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft blood red flesh is sweet and powdery. The dark orange seeds are small and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
