Sunset Blue

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This big flower grows up to 6.3 feet (1.9 meters) tall. Its orange-yellow stem is thick and straight, and the small, red leaves are white on the underside and are long, tapering with serrated edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

A single giant flower sits at the end of the stem. The flowers are 8 cm (3.1 inches) wide, with solid cyan petals and an amber central disk. The flower head is shaped like a cup with 42 raised, round-tipped petals. They are sturdy.

It has a mildly strong scent that smells like soap, and it has lots of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also particularly attractive to insects.

It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
