Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its leaves)This small flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its slate or purple stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 8 and are very thin and straight, and split into dozens of branching stems a quarter of the way up, and the large, gray leaves are dark copper on the underside and are very narrow and elongated with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and a pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.
6 to 11 large flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 18 cm (7.1 inches) wide, with alternating petals of white and grey, with a turquoise central disk. The flower head is made up of 6 petals in raised layers. They fall easily.
It has a strong scent that smells like faeces, and it has lots of pollen. It is a self-pollinator.
