Blue Agave

This short leaf succulent grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall. The sickle shaped stem is silver, and is covered in many rigid dark grey spines. The tattered-edged, thick leaves are solid sky blue or brown, with silver lines. Large amounts of them grow from the base in a spiral pattern. The leaves are hardy, but easily come away when pulled.

It is very slow growing, taking 19 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are blue on the edges and orange at the center, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of many petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight trumpet. It has a fairly strong scent that smells like perfume.

The leaf succulent's skin is thick, the dark brown flesh is slimy, and the muted green sap is thin.
