Blue Spine Cactus

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This average-sized cactus grows up to 43 feet (13.1 meters) tall. It splits randomly along the body to form 4 perforated stems. Each stem is sky blue, and is dotted with small cream spines. The spherical body is green, and is covered in hundreds of fine, slate, hair-like spines.

It is very fast growing, taking 3 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are blue on the edges and orange at the center, grow at the top, reappearing once every 3 years. The flower head is largely flat with 56 raised narrow petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like onion.

The cactus's skin is thick, the blue flesh is smooth, and the dark grey sap is thin.

It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
The sap is edible and slightly sweet.
