Magenta Sunflower
Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in its leaves)This large flower grows up to 6.7 feet (2.0 meters) tall. Its red stem is very thick and splits into 5 branching stems at the top, and the giant, magenta leaves are white on the underside and are very narrow and elongated with jagged edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.
A single small flower sits at the end of the stem. The flowers are 43 cm (16.9 inches) wide, with caramel petals and an amber central disk. The flower head is largely flat with several widely spaced narrow petals. They are hardy.
It has an overpowering scent that smells like blood, and it has very little pollen, but can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects , but is also visited by a small species of bird.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
The sap is aquamarine.
