Indigo Starvine

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.7 feet (51 cm) tall. Its green stem is very thin and straight with a curved tip, and the huge, yellow leaves are pleated with toothed edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Two small flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 7 cm (2.8 inches) wide, with gold petals on the lower layer and indigo petals decorated with magenta dots on the inner layer. The central disk is light brown. The flower head is shaped like a star with 35 tightly layered, narrow petals. They are hardy.

It has no scent, and it has a modest amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
