This pink or light grey moss is commonly found blanketing giant areas In bogs.
It is short, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches and they are slow to spread and grow, and is overwhelmingly resilient; it can easily endure flooding and draughts.
When mature, emerald oblong capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late summer to release thousands of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.

It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
