Burgundy Tree

This small tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 72 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, curved trunk covered in ridged, burgundy bark, and inside, the light wood is pale yellow.

The sparse amount of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of rough, huge, long, tapering leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are orange at the bottom and slate with turquoise dots at the top.

In early spring, it produces a handful of giant, amber blossoms with needle-like petals. They detach easily and have a strong scent that smells like apple.

In late summer it forms medium-sized, gold aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
