Copperberry

This large fruit tree grows up to 35 feet (10.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 69 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a slender, twisting trunk covered in thin, cracked, black bark, and inside, the very dense wood is copper-coloured.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with very large amounts of miniature, sickle shaped leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are pale yellow on the edges and magenta at the center.

In early spring, it produces dozens of giant, azure blossoms with many layers of petals. They are hardy and have a weak scent that smells like rotting meat.

In mid-summer it produces , cuboid fruit. The clammy red skin is stretchy and sweet, and the soft indigo flesh is sweet and sour and very juicy. The vivid yellow seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
