Violetberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 13 feet (4.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 33 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a slender, slanted trunk covered in silky, light brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is black with white speckles.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with very large amounts of miniature, broad, flat leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are peach on the sides and violet at the center.

In early spring, it produces lots of tiny, magenta blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have no scent.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, asymmetrical fruit. The fuzzy turquoise skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the very soft peach flesh is sweet and bitter and powdery. The hazel seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
