Silverwood

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for around 50 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has dozens of very thick, straight stems covered in fine, ridged, dark gray bark, and the wood inside is silver.

The branches are short, rigid and upright with dozens of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of giant, very narrow and elongated, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are orange-yellow with hazel tips, hardy and soft.

In mid-summer it produces thousands of large, crimson blossoms with long, narrow petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like warm milk.

In mid-autumn tiny long, tapering fruits ripen. The hairy blue skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is salty, and the soft gold flesh is overwhelmingly savoury and juicy. The green seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
The trunk and branches are covered in large spikes.
It can grow in even the most barren lands.
