Bronzeberry

This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 48 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, smooth, brown-green bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is brown.

The sparse patches of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with handfuls of giant, perforated leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are light grey on the edges and green at the center.

In early spring, it produces clusters of tiny, olive blossoms with perforated petals. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like a damp log.

In early winter it produces , long, narrow fruit. The rough bronze skin is delicate and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the crunchy brown flesh is bitter and salty and sticky. The gold seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
