Purple Spine Succulent

This modest-sized leaf succulent grows up to 38 feet (11.6 meters) tall. The slender, pointed stem is olive or pale yellow, and is covered in thousands of flexible faded red spines. The smooth-edged, thick leaves are dark brown with muted purple tips. Small amounts of them grow from the base in a random bunch. The leaves are strong and flexible, and do not detach easily.

It is slow growing, taking 42 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with purple petals that gradient shift to cream on the outer edge. The central disk is red, grow at the top, reappearing once every 6 years. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 60 petals. It has a soft scent that smells like sweat.

The leaf succulent's skin is tough, the gold flesh is soft, and the brown sap is thin and causes upset stomachs if consumed.
