Magenta Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This large fruit tree grows up to 42 feet (12.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 25 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in hard, knobbly, brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pine-coloured.

The small clumps of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with thick bunches of large, circular leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are found in dark grey and magenta varieties.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of medium-sized, grey blossoms with circular petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like cinnamon.

In early summer it produces tiny, fan-like fruit. The leathery cream skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft olive flesh is sweet and sour and very dry. The white seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It makes excellent hedges.
