Blackwood

This short tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for over 2,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 2087 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, cracked, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pine-coloured.

The sparse amount of branches are very short and slender, with thousands of twigs covered with very large amounts of small, dark brown or blue needles. The needles themselves are frail.

In late summer it produces small, hazel aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
