Spiny Olive

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The perforated stem is orange, and is covered in copious amounts of flexible brown spines. The curved, beige trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter in the middle. Its moss green branches trail down to the ground and start growing at the top the stem.

The very large amounts of smooth-edged, pleated leaves are either dark grey, or olive with deep blue dots. They are resilient, and are very difficult to pull away.

It is steady-growing, taking 3 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with ashy green petals on the lower layer and turquoise petals decorated with light orange dots on the inner layer. The central disk is olive grows at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is largely flat with 51 tightly layered round-tipped petals. It has a powerful scent that smells like marzipan.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the pale yellow flesh is leathery, and the aquamarine sap is thin.

It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
