Sunflower

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its stem)

This short flower grows up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. Its orange-yellow stem is thick, and the small, gray-green leaves are dark yellow-green on the underside and are sickle shaped with smooth edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the stem.

Around 80 medium-sized flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 2 cm (0.8 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of lime. The flower head is made up of dozens of petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight trumpet. They are sturdy.

It has a soft scent that smells like perfume, and it has very little pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
