Turquoise Lily

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This short flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its emerald stem is very thin and straight with a curved tip, and the huge, gray leaves are fan-like with smooth edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Dozens of small flowers grow in bunches along the stem. The flowers are 19 cm (7.5 inches) wide, with turquoise petals and a yellow center. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of 10 raised, round-tipped petals. They are hardy.

It has a mildly strong scent that smells like lavender, and it has lots of pollen; it can can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.

It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
