Purple Trumpet Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This big fruit tree grows up to 39 feet (11.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 54 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in fine, wrinkled, silver and white bark, and inside, the very light wood is pale yellow.

The small handful of branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with very large amounts of miniature, spear shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either green, or gentle purple with bronze edges.

In early spring, it produces many medium-sized, purple blossoms with circular petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a soft scent that smells like vomit.

In early winter it produces tiny, long, narrow fruit. The smooth bronze skin is thick and bitter and savoury, and the soft gentle purple flesh is overwhelmingly spicy and dry. The gold seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
