This brown moss is commonly found blanketing small areas In heathlands, and In rainforests.
It is small, growing up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. It forms in large clumps and they are slow to spread and grow, and is very rigid.
When mature, emerald triangular capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early autumn to release dozens of spores; it does not cause any allergic reactions.

It is often home to a particular bird species.
Their seeds have hallucinogenic properties.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
