Indigo Brushwood

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 113 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has numerous branched, slanted stems covered in rough, gray bark, and the wood inside is black.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of tiny, very thick, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are either gold or indigo, with azure zig-zags, strong and covered in fine hairs.

In mid-spring it produces clusters of giant, caramel flowers with pleated petals. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like apple.

It is suitable for making paper
It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
The bark, wood and leaves are edible.
