Burgundy Clump Moss

This burgundy moss is commonly found growing in large clumps On rotten logs, and On trees.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches and they are exceptionally hardy, and is very delicate.
When mature, emerald oval-shaped capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-autumn to release millions of spores; it can cause severe allergic reactions.
