Silkwood Pine
Shrub type: Coniferous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 27 years. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has numerous branched, twisting stems covered in silky, brown and grey bark, and the wood inside is pine-coloured.
The branches are very short, thin and wispy with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of small, finger-like, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are found in slate and yellow varieties, durable and clammy.
In late spring it produces handfuls of giant, hazel flowers with slender, pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like onion.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
