Silverleaf Maple

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This average-sized tree grows up to 53 meters (173.9 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 231 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in silky, silver bark, and inside, the very hard wood is black with white speckles.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of clammy, huge, circular leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are blood red at the bottom and peach with dark brown lines at the top.

In late summer it forms giant, faded orange, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

The leaves and petals are often used to make tea.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
