This colossal creeper is a very slow growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 2,851 feet (869.0 meters) and growing as high as 505 feet (153.9 meters).

It takes 43 years for the red stems to mature, by which point they can reach a diameter of 4.9 feet (1.5 meters) and are flat and wavy.

The needle-like, rough leaves reach up to 2.4 feet (74 cm) in length. They are beige and caramel, and have jagged edges.

During late spring, the creeper produces a thick sheet of average hazel flowers, and during the early summer, after flowering, it produces a modest amount of large fruits.

It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
