Copperfruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 51 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a branched, wonky trunk covered in knobbly, dark brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is burgundy.

The small handful of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with thick bunches of small, thin leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either indigo, or orange with copper patches.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of small, slate blossoms with finger-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like a newborn baby.

In early autumn it produces small, 2 pointed fruit. The leathery indigo skin is thick and inedible, and the very soft orange flesh is sweet and oily. The red seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
