It takes 2 years for the olive and orange-yellow stems to mature, by which point they can reach a diameter of 3.0 feet (91 cm) and are smooth and woody.
The pleated, soft leaves reach up to 3.8 feet (1.1 meters) in length. They are olive at the bottom and blood red with grey edges at the top, and have toothed edges.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
