Turquoise Whisperfern

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows the first year, flowers the second year, then dies)

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 194 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has numerous stocky, crooked stems covered in knobbly, brown-green speckled bark, and the wood inside is gray.

The branches trail down towards the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of miniature, pleated, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are found in gentle red and turquoise varieties, soft and flexible and crispy.

It produces large amounts of medium-sized, turquoise flowers with spiral shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like vanilla. In late summer it forms largesilver seed pods.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
The trunk and branches are covered in large spikes.
