Copperwood

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This huge shrub grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for around 53 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has several narrow, wonky stems covered in thick, waxy, pine-coloured bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches trail down towards the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of tiny, circular, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are lime and sky blue, durable and waxy.

In late summer it produces dozens of medium-sized, amber blossoms with needle-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like pine needles.

In midwinter tiny circular fruits ripen. The hairy pink skin is peel-able and inedible, and the slightly crunchy light brown flesh is spicy and juicy. The grey seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
every part of the tree is very toxic.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
