Indigo

This large fruit tree grows up to 33 feet (10.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 42 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, wonky trunk covered in very thick, rough, light brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is white with black speckles.

The small bunches of branches are short stubs and are covered with very large amounts of tiny, finger-like leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are indigo and copper.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of large, caramel blossoms with slender, pointed petals. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like petrol.

In early summer it produces tiny, oval fruit. The fuzzy lime skin is thick and edible when cooked; it is sweet and sour, and the crunchy indigo flesh is spicy and very juicy. The light red seeds are large and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
