Indigo Fruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, wavy trunk covered in hard, rough, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is black.

The numerous branches are long, thin and wispy and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, asymmetrical leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either silver, or indigo with caramel patches.

In early spring, it produces clusters of large, blood red blossoms with finger-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have an intensely strong scent that smells like a woman.

In mid-summer it produces small, stiff, pointed fruit. The smooth blood red skin is thin and sweet, and the crunchy indigo flesh is bitter and salty and very dry. The faded orange seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
