Bloodbloom

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 20 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has many slender, twisting stems covered in rough, brown-green speckled bark, and the wood inside is yellow-brown.

The branches are very short and thin with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of giant, very thick, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are intense red and blood red, hardy and smooth.

In early summer it produces large amounts of medium-sized, black flowers with finger-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like pot-purri.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
