Silverfruit

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 41 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in hard, cracked, silver and white bark, and inside, the dense wood is burgundy.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small amounts of small, fan-like leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are lime on the sides and intense yellow at the center.

In early spring, it produces thousands of small, dark grey blossoms with stiff, pointed petals. They are hardy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like burning wood.

In mid-summer it produces small, long, tapering fruit. The fuzzy yellow skin is delicate and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy lime flesh is bitter and savoury and sticky. The white seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
