Burgundy Fanflower

This short flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its red stems grow in bunches of 7 and are wispy with a curved tip, and the tiny, burgundy leaves are dark lime green on the underside and are fan-like with smooth edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

6 to 11 small flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with petals that are dark purple at the sides and dark grey at the center. The flower head is made up of dozens of petals in raised layers. They are very delicate.

It has a mildly strong scent that smells like pepper, and it has lots of pollen. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by a small species of bird.
