Goldenleaf

This short leaf succulent grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall. The wide stem is moss green, and is covered in large amounts of rigid green spines. The jagged-edged, broad, flat leaves are gold on the edges and azure at the center. Thick bunches of them grow from the base in alternating pairs. The leaves are sturdy, and take little effort to detach.

It is slow growing, taking 12 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with each petal a slightly different shade of yellow grow at the top, reappearing after 3 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of dozens of petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight trumpet. It has a strong scent that smells like varnish.

The leaf succulent's skin is delicate, the faded red flesh is sticky, and the orange sap is thin.
