Sky Blue Fruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 56 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, slanted trunk covered in fine, silky, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the light wood is pine-coloured.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with thick bunches of small, sickle shaped leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are generally sky blue.

In early spring, it produces a handful of tiny, silver blossoms with perforated petals. They fall easily and have no scent.

In late autumn it produces very large, spherical fruit. The clammy turquoise skin is thin and salty and sour, and the very soft faded red flesh is sweet and sour and dry. The yellow seeds are large and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
