Silverbrush

This average-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 129 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous stocky, slanted stems covered in fine, ridged, silver and white bark, and the wood inside is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are long and slender with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with small bunches of large, very thick, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of gray-green that gradient shifts to violet at the top, flexible and smooth.

In mid-spring it produces a thick sheet of tiny, grey blossoms with pleated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a soft scent that smells like pot-purri.

In late autumn slender, 7 pointed fruits ripen. The fuzzy silver skin is delicate and inedible, and the very soft beige flesh is savoury and juicy. The dark grey seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.
