Desert Lily

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.8 feet (53 cm) tall. Its burgundy stem is very thin, and the tiny, copper leaves are light yellow on the underside and are sickle shaped with wavy edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the stem.

2 to 6 small flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 35 cm (13.8 inches) wide, with light brown petals and a yellow center. The flower head is made up of 6 petals in raised layers. They are sturdy.

It has a fairly strong scent that smells like sugar, and it has very little pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird and is ignored by most insect species.
