Bluefruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 31 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a knobbly, slanted trunk covered in paper-thin, knobbly, light gray bark, and inside, the soft wood is silver.

The tangled mess of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with thick bunches of giant, circular leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are vivid red at the bottom and sky blue with white edges at the top.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of small, dark grey blossoms with slender, pointed petals. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like vomit.

In late summer it produces small, oval fruit. The fuzzy purple skin is delicate and edible when boiled; it is bitter and salty, and the crunchy beige flesh is sweet and very dry. The dark grey seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
