Azureberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wonky trunk covered in delicate, wrinkled, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the dense wood is white with black speckles.

The small handful of branches are short stubs and are covered with small amounts of huge, 8 pointed leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are white at the bottom and black with caramel splotches at the top.

In early spring, it produces a handful of tiny, dark grey blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like bleach.

In early summer it produces , long, narrow fruit. The clammy blue skin is peel-able and edible when boiled; it is spicy, and the crunchy azure flesh is salty and oily. The washed-out red seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
