Silverfern

This average-sized tree grows up to 56 meters (183.7 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 291 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, angular trunk covered in rough, silver and white bark, and inside, the dense wood is gray.

The branches are very long and thin and are covered with copious amounts of clammy, miniature, asymmetrical leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are black at the bottom and olive with lilac lines at the top.

In late summer it forms medium-sized, green, tough-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
