Crimson Starflower

This short flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its red stems grow in bunches of 3 and are wispy with a curved tip, and the giant, yellow-green leaves are light pink-red on the underside and are broad, flat with jagged edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

6 to 10 tiny flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with solid cream petals decorated with crimson dots and a silver central disk. The flower head is made up of 28 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight dish. They are very delicate.

It has a soft scent that smells like new carpet, and it has a fair amount of pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind.
