Amberberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 51 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, angular trunk covered in rough, black bark, and inside, the soft wood is pale yellow.

The thin clumps of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with handfuls of small, wide leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are gentle purple at the bottom and amber with magenta patches at the top.

In early spring, it produces lots of tiny, aquamarine blossoms with spear shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a powerful scent that smells like pine needles.

In early winter it produces , finger-like fruit. The rough dark grey skin is peel-able and inedible, and the very soft aquamarine flesh is savoury and oily. The olive seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
