Violet

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 53 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, slanted trunk covered in cracked, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is black with white speckles.

The extensive patches of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with large amounts of large, very narrow and elongated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are violet and blood red.

In early spring, it produces clusters of small, orange blossoms with wide petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like coconut.

In mid-autumn it produces small, asymmetrical fruit. The soft lime skin is delicate and edible when roasted; it is sweet and sour, and the very soft sky blue flesh is bitter and spicy and syrupy. The silver seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
