Grey Starflower

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.3 feet (41 cm) tall. Its orange-yellow stem is very thin, and the small, gray-green leaves are fan-like with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

A single large flower sits at the end of each stem. The flowers are 11 cm (4.3 inches) wide, with petals that are generally grey; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is made up of dozens of petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight star. They are sturdy.

It has a strong scent that smells like pot-purri, and it has copious amounts of pollen; it can can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
